It was a big week for announcements. Sony kicked things off with the Xperia 1 VI and the Xperia 10 VI announcements. The Xperia 1 VI brings an end to the 4K display but makes up for it with a brighter and smarter 1080p panel, and increases the zoom range on its telephoto module up to 170mm. “Not at this price” seems to be the main takeaway from last week’s poll about the Google Pixel 8a. $500/€550/₹53,000 is too high and people would rather get the regular Pixel 8, which can often be found for a similar price (though not for long, stock seems to be running low). In our review of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, we called its camera system “nearly flawless”. However, the Cons section points out that this is a pricey phone – and it still is, though a bit less than usual right now. Apple will increase the old iPhone trade-in value for iPhone 15 series customers at Apple retail stores starting May 20. The word comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who also said this trade-in value boost will be available in the US and Canada until June 3, 2024.
